acceptable. For example, women may chose to wear stretch Yoga or Capri
Pants with a top or tank top. Men may choose to wear fitted biker
shorts under gym shorts and a T-shirt.
How many Private Sessions should I take?
Every person that comes into our studio has a different background, and as a result there is not one standard formula for everyone. New clients MUST complete 2 Intro Private or Duet Sessions if they are interested in working on the equipment. Usually, new clients continue with privates/duets/semi-privates until the client and the trainer feel that they are ready to move into Group Equipment Training (G.E.T.). Those clients who are only interested in Mat Classes must begin by signing up for the Pilates Mat w/Prop Classes. Those who desire 100% of their Trainer's attention and enjoy private workouts can continue.

Is Pilates and Yoga the same?
They have some similarities but significant differences. Pilates is based on first strengthening the core of the body (abdominals and spine) and then moving with Control from that stable, strong center. Pilates is based on a flowing, usually single breath rhythm and utilizes counting, whereas Yoga rarely counts and positions are held for much longer periods of time.
Pilates training involves a system for resistance training: spring loaded equipment, Magic Rings, Bands, and Weights, so that lean muscle mass is added and maintained. Yoga is wonderful for opening up the hips, shoulders, and deep twists of the spine. In addition, Yoga teaches standing balances and relaxation techniques with the breath. The Ashtanga (Power Yoga) is the most similar to Pilates in form and flow. We encourage both disciplines of movement, but we believe that Pilates is the baseline for all functional fitness.
What is the difference between a "Comprehensively Certified" Pilates Trainer and those who have Mat only or Reformer only type "Certifications?"
A Comprehensively Certified Pilates Trainer is trained on ALL Apparatus at ALL Levels, including Special Health Conditions. They serve a full Apprenticeship consisting of: Pre-Certification requirements in Equipment Training, Anatomy, and Mat Certification; Coursework that is between 400-800 hours consisting of one on one learning of the exercises from a Teacher-Trainer, ongoing Practicums, Written Exams, Self Practice, and Supervised Teaching all culminating with a Final Test out and exam. The Pilates Community (The Pilates Method Alliance, PMA) has just approved a National Certification Exam which will be required of Apparatus Trainers from all branches of Training to assure the Standards of Education.
